Is Cranberry Juice Alkaline Or Acidic?

by John

Is cranberry juice acidic? Although cranberry juice is considered to be acidic, it still is quite good for you. There are many health benefits offered by cranberry juice, and I learned at a very early about one of these benefits. My mother drank cranberry juice at one point when I was young due to the fact that she had kidney stones. Supposedly cranberry juice helps with that. It is also considered to be a great all around beverage and among the best fruit juices. With all of the sugar-filled unhealthy options out there, it is important to have good beverages.

Most likely you are thinking that given the fact that cranberries are a type of fruit that there are lots of natural sugars contained in cranberry juice. However, actually cranberry juice is a very tart drink. So don’t let that prevent you from trying it out if you haven’t done so already since it is delicious. You can also mix it with other types of juices as well as other ingredients in order to make various drinks. Just don’t make a Cosmopolitan and then try to claim it is a healthy beverage!

If you don’t know what a Cosmopolitan is, it’s a cranberry juice and vodka mixed drink. Some cranberry juice manufacturers add sugar and other don’t. For those that do, some of them add more sugar than others. You want to get a cranberry juice that has no or very little sugar added to it. This means that it is not only important that you decide to drink cranberry juice but also that you pay attention to which one you purchase.

Let’s return to the original question that we asked: Is cranberry juice acidic? Keep in mind that everything has its own pH level, and it can be a good idea to specifically look at those numbers. It was previously mentioned that this juice is acidic, however you have to know what the pH level is. Cranberry juice has a specific pH level of about 2.5. That isn’t too bad, but it needs to be noted that a beverage or food needs to have a 7 pH level in order to be considered alkaline instead of acidic.

If you don’t want to drink acidic beverage, then I really don’t blame you. Many times I have suffered from acid reflux, and it is definitely a good idea to limit the number of acidic beverages that you drink. However, cranberry juice is a type of natural fruit juice which does provide health benefits. So if you are avoiding acidic beverages like soda, then you maybe drinking some cranberry juice will not be too much in terms of acidity.

I previously mentioned kidney stones, since my mom drank cranberry juice while having the stones. Another interesting thing to notice is this juice also helps with treating bladder infections. Cranberry juice is also known for being good for your dental healthy, and supposedly is helpful in preventing heart disease.

The pH can be increased by adding sugar to make cranberry juice a bit more alkaline. However, that isn’t something you want to do. A mixer can always be added that is not acidic in order to help balance it out. Either way, if you haven’t been drinking cranberry juice, you may want to try it out. Particularly if you drink a lot of fruit juice, kind in mid that among the best is cranberry juice.
